Training Content Development...
At BasisMedia we firmly believe that “Content is King”. To effectively communicate with your audience the program content must be professional, concise, and instructionally sound.

You are the subject matter expert for your content, however if you need assistance in preparing training content our instructional designers and course developers are there to help. BasisMedia can assist with all or any part of the content development process.

The development of training content is a multi-faceted process involving discrete activities. For each e-Learning course the steps include:

  • Needs Analysis

  • Job Task Analysis

  • Instructional Design

  • Materials Development

  • Content Preparation

  • Production and Delivery

  • Testing and Assessment

In many cases our customers have existing content to be transformed into e-Learning content. However, whether you are working with existing training materials or starting from scratch you should apply this industry standard process for content development and preparation.

Needs Analysis
In this step you determine and evaluate what the training needs are. Perhaps there is a need for new or updated knowledge or skills. A Needs Analysis should answer the question "What training needs to be developed?"

Job Task Analysis
With the Job Task Analysis we go to the next step and determine what specific tasks are involved in performing the job. This will eliminate developing training materials that don’t apply to the specific job.

Instructional Design
Next we create objectives based on the analysis. Here we determine what the learner should accomplish during training in order to gain the knowledge and skills they’ll need to do their job.

Along with the objectives we need to establish criteria that will allow us to determine how well the learner has performed or achieved the objectives. One concrete way to formulate criteria is to create test questions that measure the desired performance or outcome of the training.

Materials Development
Once we’ve done the analysis we can develop the materials. This means creating lessons based on your objectives and with a longer course, separating lessons into modules of related material.

Lessons may be made up of:

  • PowerPoint presentations or other graphics

  • Video content

  • Self-directed reading or research

  • Or, any other content that allows students to complete your learning objectives

During Materials Development it is important to keep in mind how the content will be delivered. Is it a “talking head” presentation, or self-directed reading and research, or is it a video production involving several people, equipment or props? These considerations will affect the way the material is developed.

Content Preparation
In order for the lessons you’ve created to be portable to the e-Learning environment the content preparation. This means creating full-narrated scripts for PowerPoint presentations and video content.

Any graphics or text must also be adjusted for optimal viewing on the web.

Production and Delivery
There are several methods for producing and delivering e-Learning content. These include CD-ROM, internet/intranet/extranet, DVD. BasisMedia typically handles all aspects of production and delivery.

Testing and Assessment
Once training content is produced and delivered to your audience you can determine how effective the training is through testing and assessment. Tests can be included within each module of training or can be administered separately through an e-Learning Portal.
